Nobody will ever forget the horrific images on our television screens from the wars in the former Yugoslavia over a decade ago. Approximately three million people including 500,000 children were displaced, made homeless or suffered the loss of one or both of their parents. St Joseph & The Helpers Charity are engaged in ongoing projects in Bosnia & Herzegovina including building projects which provide shelter, education, jobs and improve the lives of orphans and the victims of war.

Heartfelt Thanks!
On behalf of my fellow Directors
I wish extend our heartfelt thanks to all our members, helpers and donors in Ireland, UK and USA who have raised over 1,600,000 for our building and humanitarian projects since our charity was formed. 100% of your donations go directly to the projects as all administration costs are paid by the directors
of the charity.

Through your magnificent support
our projects are now making a huge difference to the lives of others in a country that has close to 60% unemployment. We can't thank you enough for your wonderful support.

We need your donations so that we can help the people of Bosnia Herzegovina. If you would like to contribute click one of the links below. Thank you.

Orphanage at Novi Travnik, Bosnia

The Orphanage at Novi Travnik was established by Sr Kornelije and her fellow Sisters of charity of the Most Holy Wounds of Jesus. They already have John Paul II No 1 orphanage at Citluk and John Paul II No 2 at Vionica (beside the Grandparents Home). The new orphanage is called John Paul II No 3. Sr Kornelije's brother, Fr Kornelije, helps with the work and planning too. The charity raised €140,000 for this development.

The building is now complete and will very shortly open as an Orphanage/Kindergarten School for some 20 children, 5 carers, 2 teachers and 2 assistants.

Story OF LUCIJA BEHAR

Lucija’s parents, Slaven & Marijeta are both 33 years old and her older sister Ana is aged 7. Lucija was born in January 2001 as a premature baby. Some body functions were severely damaged. Ever since the early days all the family were intensively included in a programme of exercising her muscles to get her to her feet, and up to recently they have been given hope that she might walk on her own. However, the latest tests show that there is little hope of that happening as she is suffering from cerebral paralyses.

She also has problems with her eyes and had surgery for this in both Vienna and Zagreb. The medics are trying a new therapy with Botox injections to relax her muscles, but to date no major improvement has been shown. With no Government Aid for special needs children, her parents were desperate for a wheel chair or buggy to ease the burden of carrying their disabled daughter everywhere. St Joseph & The Helpers Charity were very happy to provide Lucija with a new buggy, which also enables her to spend time with other people, especially children. It is heartbreaking to see her jumping up and down in the buggy and clapping her hands since this is the most she can do, because she still does not realise that she cannot run or play with them.

The new buggy is a great asset to Lucijia and please God it will assist her to have a more comfortable life with her sister Ana and friends.
