Nobody will ever forget the horrific images on our television screens from the wars in the former Yugoslavia over a decade ago. Approximately three million people including 500,000 children were displaced, made homeless or suffered the loss of one or both of their parents. St Joseph & The Helpers Charity are engaged in ongoing projects in Bosnia & Herzegovina including building projects which provide shelter, education, jobs and improve the lives of orphans and the victims of war.

Heartfelt Thanks!
On behalf of my fellow Directors
I wish extend our heartfelt thanks to all our members, helpers and donors in Ireland, UK and USA who have raised over 1,600,000 for our building and humanitarian projects since our charity was formed. 100% of your donations go directly to the projects as all administration costs are paid by the directors
of the charity.

Through your magnificent support
our projects are now making a huge difference to the lives of others in a country that has close to 60% unemployment. We can't thank you enough for your wonderful support.

We need your donations so that we can help the people of Bosnia Herzegovina. If you would like to contribute click one of the links below. Thank you.

Community Centre
St Joseph's Hall

Appeal to date has raised €500,000

The Charity has funded the construction of St Joseph's Community Centre at Mother's Village. The multi-purpose building will include a small chapel and a 1,000 square metre hall.  It will also be used for the drug rehabilitation programme which is run there as well as being available for local schools and community groups. All age groups will be able to enjoy sports, arts activities, drama, celebrations, fund raising events etc at the centre. We appeal to you all to adopt this project by donations or by fund raising activities of your own.  We thank you in advance for your support and prayers.

Building a New Community Centre for all to share...

“The Mother's Village” is an institution for both preschool education and the upbringing and social care for children and youth. It belongs to the Community of the Herzegovinian Franciscans of the Province of the “Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary” in Mostar, BiH. It was founded in 1993 during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The building and operating was started by Father Slavko Barbariç and the project was aided by the Franciscan School Sisters of “The Holy Family” from the Herzegovinian Province. The Mother’s Village evolved out of the need for protection and care for the children who were wounded by the loss of their homes and parental care during and after the war.

Prior to his untimely death Fr Slavko Barbaric and Fr Svet had discussed the need for this centre. Fr Svet tells us that it was Fr Slavko's dream and that it became his dream too.

Dear Friend,

This multi-purpose building will include a small chapel of 200 sq. metres and another 1,000 sq. metres in the hall. It is for all the community to share but especially for the children of Medjugorje Parish and the people in our drug rehabilitation programme. Our pilgrims will also have a better ministry and can celebrate services from the Church, especially at New Year and other busy times. There is no similar hall in Medjugorje and it will be wonderful for the teachers and children to enjoy sports, art activities, drama and Christmas plays - that everyone can attend. I place this project, like all projects in Mother’s Village, into the Providence of Our Lord Jesus and into the Hands of Our Lady.

I welcome you to be part of this Providence.

Pax et bonum

Fr Svetozar Kraljevic
